| Abstract | The process of human occupation in the Brazilian Amazonia has deserved attention of scientists, politicians and of the society in general in the last decades mainly due to the high taxes of deforestation. Several studies have attempted to identify the determining factors of deforestation through the use of empirical methods. In this work, we compare the factors related to the deforestation in the States of Pará, Amazon and Rondônia using a cellular space database that aggregates biophysical and socio-economic potential determining factors, aggregated from different sources. Our goal is to verify the hypothesis that the intra-regional heterogeneity can be captured by the differences in the deforestation socio-economic and environmental determining factors among the three States. Linear regression models are used. The models constructed demonstrate quantitatively the specificity of the deforestation patterns in each state, and the differences in the relative importance of the determining factors, according to local characteristics, and history and stage of occupation of each State. | |||
